NINE people have been injured after part of a fairground ride in the pictured town of Segorbe (Castellón province) fell down whilst they were on board as a result of a failure in the electricity supply.
It was reported earlier today (Sunday) that the accident happened at around 20.00 on Friday night and an 'arm' of the ride known as The Octopus (El Pulpo) dropped suddenly when the generator powering the attraction went down.
Those on board at the time fell with it and landed on their backs, leading emergency services to fear potentially life-limiting injuries.
But nobody suffered any broken bones, although nine were treated for severe cuts and bruises.
Police and members of the public rushed to their aid and some of them gave the injured parties lifts to Segorbe's Hospital Complementario, whilst others were taken by ambulance.
They were all discharged either the same night or on Saturday morning.
Segorbe Local Police shut the ride pending investigations.
It is thought that the fairground will have been temporarily closed over yesterday and today, however, given that the onset of 'Storm Ana' has brought force 7 and 8 gales with winds of up to 75 kilometres per hour (47mph).
Segorbe, a town of 9,005 inhabitants in the rural inland south of the province of Castellón, is around 58 kilometres north-west of Valencia city, to which it is linked by a direct train line.
