22/12/2017
AN OUTER suburban Cercanías train has crashed with the end-of-line barrier at Alcalá de Henares station, leaving 40 people injured, according to emergency services in the Greater Madrid region.
Line C-2, a double-decker train which runs from Guadalajara (Castilla-La Mancha) via Alcalá de Henares, Madrid's central Atocha station, and its national Chamartín station was, fortunately, travelling at a slow speed when it crashed at around 15.35 today (Friday).
As it happened at the terminus, rail traffic was not disrupted, other than short delays on the C-7 line.
Most of the injured were treated for cuts and bruises or for panic attacks, although four people have been admitted to hospital and mayor of Alcalá, Javier Rodríguez Palacios, has travelled to the area.
