AN IBERIA strike at Barcelona airport aimed at disrupting Christmas has been called off after the company agreed to 'improve the situation' for its workers in order 'prevent total chaos'.
Employees had created a plan together with the General Workers' Union (UGT) calling for extra staff to be taken on to ease their labour burden.
They say Iberia 'owes' them over 7,000 rest hours through not being able to take breaks or days off when they are scheduled due to understaffing.
When their pleas were not heard, they arranged a strike in four-hour slots over four days, but have now announced this will no longer go ahead.
“Although it's true that the full list of requests made by workers' representatives, improvements have been achieved thanks to staff's pressure brought to bear and to the conflict that arose with the strike announcement,” the UGT says.
Workers planning industrial action were employed in aircraft maintenance and baggage handling at Barcelona's El Prat terminal – around 2,000 employees in total.
