Traffic police motorbikes upgraded
27/12/2017
GUARDIA Civil traffic police motorbikes have been given a complete new look – they will now include fluorescent yellow in their colour scheme in accordance with European Union rules on visibility, and have gained in comfort, safety, power and speed.
Until now, Guardia Civil officers on the mainland and islands rode BMW R850 RT bikes in white and dark green, the latter being the colour of their uniforms.
But yesterday (Boxing Day), a fleet of 291 new BMW R1200 RT bikes with reflective bands were delivered to the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT).
They cost €19,650, six gears, 125 horse-power and 7,750rpm, with a front double-disc hydraulic braking system of 320 millimetres and a single-disc rear braking system of 276mm.
Optional features include Electronic Suspension Adjustment, gear-change assistant, LED lights for daytime use, Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC) and Downhill Assist Control (DAC).
They can be ridden in 'rain' mode or 'road' mode and include an Automatic Stability Control (ASC), TFT screens, and on-board BMW Motorrad Pro computers to provide information they need whilst on the road.
