Diana Quer's body found after killer confesses

Diana Quer's body found after killer confesses

Diana Quer's body found after killer confesses
MISSING sixth-former Diana Quer's body has been found in a well in the Rianxo area of the province of A Coruña, about 15 kilometres from her family's holiday home in A Pobra do Caramiñal.

The 18-year-old model and student has been missing since the early hours of Monday, August 22, 2016 at around 02.20 when she sent a WhatsApp message to a friend in her home town of Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid, saying she thought she was being followed.

José Enrique Abuín Gey, 41, finally confessed after his wife Rosario Rodríguez, also in custody for aiding and abetting, changed her story and admitted she had not been with her husband on the night Diana vanished.

After a few hours post-arrest displaying what police described as 'an arrogant attitude', he finally caved in and revealed he had killed Diana and dumped her body down a shaft in a disused warehouse in the tied parish of Asados in Rianxo.

He took police to the location and Diana's body was found tied down with weights.

Police divers went down the well, the lid of which was lifted by the fire brigade at around 06.30 this morning (New Year's Eve), and spent another four hours bailing it out in case other evidence was submerged.

The warehouse is just 200 metres from Abuín Gey's parents' house and is well-known locally for having housed companies such as Muebles Rial furniture store and Gaseosas Pitusa soft drinks, but the building is now under an embargo.

It has since been used for hiding hauls of drugs and contraband cigarettes.

As yet, the exact circumstances surrounding Diana's death have not been revealed, although it is thought she may have been strangled when she refused to get into the killer's car.

A post-mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of death and whether or not she had been raped, and whether or not her lungs were full of water, which would indicate if she had been alive when thrown down the well.

Abuín Gey, whose nickname is 'El Chicle' ('Chewing Gum') initially tried to say he had killed Diana by accidentally running over her and, panicking, had disposed of her body.

'El Chicle' has an existing criminal record after being found with two kilos of cocaine in his car 10 years ago, leading to a major drug-dealing operation being broken up.

He was also accused of sexually assaulting his wife's sister, and his wife is accused of trying to hinder investigations into the attack.

The Guardia Civil had had him under scrutiny since soon after Diana disappeared, but had to wait until they had something to pin on him to allow them to make an arrest.

On Christmas Day, a young woman reported he had tried to steal her money and mobile phone at knifepoint and to force her into the boot of his car in the town of Boiro, near Rianxo, and gave a very accurate description of the offender and his grey Alfa Romeo family saloon, which had been captured on CCTV the night Diana vanished.

Fortunately for the latest victim, her screams alerted two bystanders who fought off her attacker, but it is now clear she would probably have met the same fate as Diana Quer if they had not been successful.

Initially, Rosario Rodríguez told police she and her husband had been 'stealing petrol' from a service station on the night Diana went missing walking back from the local fiestas in A Pobra.

Under interrogation, she admitted she did not know for sure whether her husband suffered from 'some kind of sexual disorder', but that she had noticed five pieces of her underwear missing.

She also revealed he was a heavy drinker and became violent once inebriated, but said she was a 'jealous wife' and always 'made Enrique sleep at home' every night, except on one occasion she 'let' him go to Madrid to watch Real play in the Champions' League at home.

Diana's mother, Diana López-Pinel, and her sister Valeria Quer, now 17, are described as 'distraught'.

Sra López-Pinel says she hopes Abuín Gey gets the maximum sentence possible, 'never sees the light of day again in jail' and that his life 'is an endless hell'.

Valeria called him names in her Instagram posts and wrote this morning: “Today I'm no longer a person.”

The youngster, who has a history of self-harming and panic attacks, says her life has been at half-mast since her beloved elder sister, then aged 18, vanished.

Last night, when it had not been confirmed whether or not Diana was still alive, Valeria wrote an emotional message on Instagram titled, “Farewell, little one.”

Valeria's and Diana's father Juan, a property tycoon divorced from their mother, has not yet made a statement, but many months ago made a public tribute to his elder daughter whom he was convinced was no longer alive.
