U2 'one night only' in Madrid
19/01/2018
LEGENDARY Irish rockers U2 have announced a one-night-only stop-off in Spain as part of their European tour.
They will be in Madrid on September 20 this year – after a 13-year absence - and tickets will go on sale on Friday, January 26 via the official channels Livenation.es, Doctormusic.com and Ticketmaster.es.
A maximum of four tickets per person can be purchased, to prevent illegal bulk-buying and resale at a profit.
The eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE Tour – a continuation of the Songs of Experience tour from 2015 in which the band promoted its 14th studio album, the sequel to Songs of Innocence in 2014 – will also involve dates in the UK, Ireland, Denmark, The Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, France and Germany.
It is possible that more dates will be announced depending upon ticket sales, given that U2's last concert in Spain saw all entries snapped up in 20 minutes.
The general public can buy theirs from 10.00 on January 26, but fans signed up to the official website U2.com get an earlier chance – from today (Thursday, January 18) starting at 10.00 through to this Saturday, January 20 at 17.00, according to the band's promoters, Doctor Music.
Additionally, those who bought the album Songs of Experience through advance orders before November 30, 2017 in Spain, the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Denmark, Portugal, Italy or The Netherlands will also be eligible for an early ticket sale opportunity from next Monday, January 22 starting at 09.00 through to Wednesday, January 24 at 17.00.
These buyers will receive a promotional code via email and may buy up to two tickets per person until stocks run out, but are warned that the code itself does not guarantee them an entry.
U2's Songs of Experience Tour 'reinvented stadium shows' according to Rolling Stone, and was named Concert of the Year 2015 by The New York Times.
The September 20 concert in Madrid will be held at the WiZink Arena, formerly known as the sports centre or Palacio de los Deportes, which has capacity for up to 20,000 spectators.
