SIX tourists stuck in the snow in Gran Canaria had to be rescued last night (Friday), reports the Guardia Civil, whose officers took the photograph shown here (left).
The holidaymakers had gone hiking up a mountain along a track which, despite the snow, was still open, but were unable to get back to their car once they had finished as the lane became blocked.
They had driven up the Camino Vecinal in Los Pinos de Gáldar, or the GC-150, but got lost whilst on foot.
Traffic authorities and environmental officers from the island council, or Cabildo, were summoned after their emergency call and led the group back to their car and then on to an open part of the road that was safe to drive through without getting trapped.
Guardia Civil officers recommend walkers and drivers take extra precaution during the snow, which has affected parts of the islands at high altitudes.
They had already rescued a woman who was suffering from hypothermia on Friday when she became trapped in the snow in Gran Canaria.
