It is the first of 16 Boeing 787-9s due to be added to Air Europa's long-haul fleet between now and the year 2022, and the second is due to arrive in March to cover the airline's route from Madrid to the Argentinian capital, Buenos Aires.
The craft which has just arrived in Madrid is the second member of the Dreamliner family and has more passenger space – seating for up to 333, including 30 in Business Class - than the 787-8, with a 20% reduction in emissions and creates 60% less noise than other aircraft of the same size.
Four more Boeing 787-9 are due to be sent from South Carolina in 2019, five more in 2020, two in 2021 and the final three in 2022.
