British serial rapist caught in Murcia
09/03/2018
A BRITISH man convicted of raping a 15-year-old girl and a woman in the 1980s has been arrested in Baños de Fortuna (Murcia) after decades on the run.
The as-yet unnamed individual was found thanks to extensive cross-border investigations by the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) and the National Police in Spain.
He is facing a life sentence for the violent offences, which he committed between 1980 and 1983.
The woman is said to have been raped four times by the same man, and the underage girl at least once.
A European arrest warrant was issued by British authorities in 2016, but even when it was suspected he was hiding out in south-eastern Spain, tracing him was difficult because he was said to be living in a camper-van and 'left no trace of his movements' when he went on to his next location.
The offender was in his van when he was arrested, and is expected to be extradited to the UK in the next few days.
