A PENSIONER has been removed from an aircraft for 'persistent racist comments' directed at a flight attendant, according to the Guardia Civil.
The Binter flight from Palma de Mallorca to Tenerife North had not taken off yet – it was due to leave at 14.00 on Wednesday, police revealed last night (Friday), and ended up being delayed 20 minutes because of the incident.
A man aged 70 was heard repeatedly saying to an air stewardess, who is originally from Sénégal: “Go away now, I don't want blacks next to me.”
The passenger made the same or similar comments to her each time she passed him in the aisle, and finally, she replied: “Collect your case, please, and leave the aircraft.”
A report had already been filed with the Guardia Civil, who entered the plane and arrested the man in light of his initial refusal to disembark.
Binter, a Canary Island regional carrier, expressed its 'maximum condemnation and indignation' at 'this type of behaviour' and says its staff had its full support.
“Our cabin crew make a constant effort to provide the best possible services to passengers, and this type of behaviour will not be tolerated on our airline,” a spokesperson from Binter said.
