Vueling pilots plan strike
13/04/2018
PILOTS of Barcelona-based low-cost airline Vueling will be on strike at the end of this month and beginning of May over an ongoing pay dispute.
Their union, SEPLA, says industrial action has been planned for 24 hours at a time on Wednesday and Thursday, April 25 and 26, and on Friday and Saturday, May 4 and 5.
SEPLA has been attempting to negotiate the new collective working conditions agreement which replaces the recently-expired statute, but says the carrier has been 'systematically in breach' of the terms and conditions therein as well as showing 'a total lack of clarity'.
Offers of pay and terms made by Vueling airlines are 'considerably poorer' than those of other companies among the competition.
'Violating terms of the agreement' is something Vueling does 'repeatedly', according to SEPLA, and cites issues covering recruitment, temporary vacancies and notification of breaks and days off, as well as deals regulating the opening of overseas bases, where the same working conditions are legally supposed to apply and may not be any worse than those for staff in Spain.
Vueling, which runs low-cost flights to domestic and European destinations including the UK, is a subsidiary of national airline Iberia and owned by IAG Group, formed as a result of the merger between Iberia and British Airways.
