JÁVEA and the tennis world have welcomed a new 'ATP baby' – Davis Cup hero David Ferrer's wife Marta has just given birth to their first child, Leo.
David's eponymous tennis academy in his home town in the province of Alicante has just released the above photograph on its Twitter page (@tenisferrer) with a congratulatory note reading: “The roar of another great champion is already heard.”
The next generation of world tennis stars may have to be referred to by their surnames, given how popular 'Leo' is proving as a first name among the current crop of players.
Roger Federer and Victoria Azarenka also have sons called Leo.
David Ferrer married Marta in 2015 in neigbhouring Pedreguer, and mayor of Jávea José Chulvi was guest of honour at the wedding.
The tennis star, who missed the Mutua Madrid Barcelona Open and the Monte Carlo Masters because of the birth of Leo, always drops Jávea into conversation as often as he can when he is on the circuit and is a well-loved ambassador for his home town.
The Arenal seafront esplanade in Jávea has been named the Paseo del Tenista David Ferrer in honour of its celebrity resident.
