Gareth Bale's 'fluent Spanish' shocks Kroos
09/06/2018
REAL Madrid players were stunned and amused when their monolingual Welsh colleague Gareth Bale congratulated team mate Lucas Vázquez on becoming a dad – in fluent Spanish.
The Champions' League final hero (pictured), who only speaks English and neither Welsh nor Spanish, tweeted the message, “Muchas felicidades, Lucas,” or 'Many congratulations, Lucas.”
An amazed fellow Real Madrid player Toni Kroos answered simply with the word, ¿Español? and laughing and surprised emojis, given that his team mate is well known for being unable to speak even the most basic Spanish.
But Bale swiftly clarified the mystery with another tweet, this time in German, Kroos' native language.
It read: “Google Translate ist eine wunderbare Sache,” or “Google Translate is a wonderful thing.”
