Pérez (pictured) had to be flown to Sant Pau hospital in Barcelona, where his condition is said to be of grave concern.
Initial reports claimed that he had died, but Team Real Avintia Racing clarified he was still alive and in a very serious condition.
“The latest news from the hospital confirms that Andreas Pérez has suffered very serious brain injuries, but that his heart is still beating,” the team tweeted at 20.42 this evening.
“Out of respect for the family, we would ask for prudence when reporting.”
