A RUSSIAN musician thrown off a plane to Gran Canaria because he stank has died in a Portuguese hospital, according to the media in his home country.
Andrey Suchilin suffered a serious, rare and life-threatening infection, which was the reason behind the foul stench coming from him on the Transavia flight from Amsterdam-Schipol to Las Palmas on June 4.
Several passengers fainted and vomited because of the smell, which they said was 'like someone who had not washed in months'.
The crew set up a type of 'quarantine' for the smelly passenger to box him off from the rest of the aircraft, but the pong continued to invade the aircraft.
In the end, the pilot opted to make a diversion to Faro, on the southern Portuguese coast, as a result of 'a medical emergency'.
Suchilin was taken off the plane by paramedics upon arrival.
Russian media has now revealed that he was placed in intensive care in a hospital in Faro, where he very soon slipped into a coma and has now died.
Friends paying tributes to the musician on social media say his rare but complex health condition was the reason for the smell which upset the Dutch passengers.
