Tour de France winner arrested for gatecrashing Tarantino actor's party
05/08/2018
A FORMER top professional cyclist has been arrested for 'breaking and entering' after gatecrashing a famous actor and film director's party in Mallorca, police on the Balearic island reveal.
A heated discussion broke out after Jan Ullrich (pictured) climbed the fence to join fellow German national Til Schweiger's party after the latter had previously expressly forbidden the cyclist from entering his property.
Schweiger – famous for his role as Hugo Stiglitz in Quentin Tarantino's 2009 film Inglourious Basterds – called the police.
Although Ullrich has since been released with charges, an injunction has been placed on him preventing him from entering the property belonging to Schweiger, whom he lives next door to.
Ullrich, 44, retired from cycling at the age of 33, in 2007, after a star-studded career which saw him winning the 1997 Tour de France at the unusually young age of 23, then the Vuelta a España two years later and two medals at the Sydney 2000 Olympics – a gold in road-racing and a silver in the timed section.
But he later admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs after he was named in a massive international anti-doping operation.
Just under a year ago, he was hit with a 21-month suspended prison sentence for causing a car crash in Switzerland whilst driving under the influence of alcohol and sleeping pills at 130 kilometres per hour in an 80-kilometre limit.
