A BRITISH holidaymaker remains in a critical condition in Palma de Mallorca's Son Espases hospital after falling from a terrace eight metres (26 feet) up in Magaluf.
The 25-year-old is believed to have lost his balance whilst defecating over the edge of the balcony.
Emergency services were called to the Hotel TRH on the C/ Martín Ros in the beach resort enclave which belongs to the larger inland town of Calvià at around 03.25 and found him badly injured on the ground.
He is believed to have suffered serious head wounds.
Days later, he is still fighting for his life in hospital.
The Guardia Civil has been investigating the cause of his fall, but believes the initial story that he lost his footing whilst going to the toilet off the edge of the terrace is likely to be true.
So far this year, six holidaymakers, most of them British, have died in falls from balconies, window ledges or other high-up elements of hotels in the Balearic Islands, although not all through negligence – in two cases, youngsters on holiday with friends perished after losing their footing on a walkway with a very low wall and poor visibility at night, and their parents have called for a full inquiry.
At least another 10, including the latest case, have been seriously injured.
