Volkswagen recalls Tiguan and Touran models with 'short-circuit risk'
MOTOR manufacturer Volkswagen has recalled 700,000 Tiguan and Touran models because a fault in the ceiling light may cause it to short-circuit in warm, damp or humid conditions.

It is believed a few tens of thousands of those affected are in Spain, but the exact number has not been confirmed – about 50,000 are in Germany – although anyone who has a Touran or Tiguan should go to their nearest VW dealership and enquire.

Those which may be at risk of short-circuiting were part of the batches made up to and including July 5, 2017.

Dealerships will check the vehicles over and repair the fault free of charge if it is found.

But the issue should not be ignored, as the short-circuit may cause damage to the ceiling or, in extreme cases, lead to the vehicle catching fire.

VW says owners can still use their vehicles safely whilst awaiting checking and repair, but should look out for warning signs.

If they see a stain on the ceiling, they should take their car straight to the nearest dealership without delay.

The first symptom of a pending short-circuit is that the light panel stops working, as humidity or damp may have already affected the electrics.
