A BRITISH passenger's death from a cocaine overdose forced a Jet2 flight to Ibiza to make an emergency landing in Toulouse, south-western France, according to the airline.
Reports released in the Spanish media today reveal that the deceased, said to be in his early 30s, was seen trembling violently in his seat, then began 'acting strangely' and visiting the toilet several times.
During the flight from Manchester on Sunday, the traveller was spotted pouring a white powdery substance into a vodka and coca-cola.
Neighbouring passengers said afterwards: “He was definitely taking drugs.
“When the cabin crew shut the toilets to stop him, he poured all he had left into his drink.”
Flight attendants apparently ran to his seat to put his oxygen mask on and had a defibrillator at the ready.
At one point, he was laid out on the floor in the aisle and two 'amazingly brave' female passengers performed CPR on him for 20 minutes, 'reacting so quickly' that other travellers believed they may have been off-duty medical professionals.
Even after the aircraft had started its descent into Toulouse, one of the women was still giving the man cardiac massage and mouth-to-mouth, despite cabin crew telling her to return to her seat and put her belt on for landing.
A spokeswoman from the British foreign office said her department was 'in contact' with French authorities 'following the death of a British national in Toulouse' as well as providing support for his family 'at this difficult time'.
It is not known how long the flight was delayed before taking off again for Ibiza.
