Tickets on sale for Ed Sheeran's Spain concerts
27/09/2018
RECORD-BREAKING pop soloist Ed Sheeran has announced concert dates for next year in Spain in two venues – and tickets have already gone on sale today (Thursday).
Sheeran, 27, who grew up in Framlingham, Suffolk and went to Thomas Mills High School, broke the Spotify release-day streaming record after his first two singles were streamed more than 13 million times between them within 24 hours.
For the first time in pop history, the same artist took the UK number one and two slots in the singles chart, with the catchy Shape of You accumulating a total of 14 weeks in the top slot, the most by any one record in 2017 and breaking the record in Canada with 16 weeks on the trot at number one.
Described as 'tropical house', 'dancehall', 'pop' and 'R&B', Shape of You is played on a South African marimba, a type of giant xylophone, and also held onto number one in Spain for most of last summer.
The second single, Castle on the Hill, is a tribute to Framlingham Castle in Ed's childhood town, where he moved when he was very young from his birthplace of Halifax.
Galway Girl, his third single, is a nod to his Irish roots on the side of his father John, who came from a 'very large Catholic family'.
With an honorary degree from the University of Suffolk, in Ipswich, it was inevitable Ed's European tour would include a gig there – this will be at Chantry Park on August 23 and 24, 2019.
Another will be held close to his birth town – at Roundhay Park in Leeds on August 16 and 17.
Prior to that, the red-headed genius and ambassador for the East Anglia Children's Hospice will be at Barcelona's Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium on June 7, 2019 and, on June 11, at Madrid's Wanda Metropolitan stadium.
From May to August non-stop he will also be touring Portugal, France, the Czech Republic, Iceland, Hungary, Denmark, Russia, Finland, Austria, Germany, Romania, Italy and Latvia.
Prior to the European leg of his tour, Sheeran will perform live at several venues in South Africa, where the marimba of his Shape of You will literally strike a chord with fans.
