TENNIS star Rafa Nadal has not stopped at lending his sports centre to flood victims to sleep in – the ATP world number one has been seen bailing out a home in the rain-battered town of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar.
Wearing wellington boots up to his knees and caked in mud, Rafa – who was born on the island, in Manacor – was ready to roll up his sleeves and muck in with the clear-up operation.
Nadal is said to be very distressed about the flash floods hitting his home island and the plight of residents in Sant Llorenç.
After a river burst its banks following 10 inches (25 centimetres) of rain in the space of a few hours, six people were reported missing and 12 are known to have died, including a mother who drowned saving her seven-year-old daughter and for whose five-year-old son emergency services are still searching.
He is the only person still missing, but others have since been found alive.
It is said to be the worst flood in the Balearics – if not in the whole of Spain – in living history.
