Novak Djokovic explores Madrid by hoverboard
10/05/2019
WORLD number one men's singles tennis player Novak Djokovic has been exploring Madrid on an electronic skateboard in between matches, and shared the above photo on Instagram of himself next to the Puerta de Alcalá, the city's answer to the Arc de Triomphe.
Djokovic is through to the semi-finals of the Mutua Madrid Open without having had to play in the quarter-finals, since his rival, Croatia's Marin Čilić, was forced to retire due to injury.
The Serbian ATP number one will now play Austria's Dominic Thiem in a bid to secure his place in the final.
Meanwhile, Djokovic has made the most of his trip to the capital of Spain, a country he loves and 'feels very comfortable in' – former FC Barcelona player Carles Puyol and female tennis ace Garbiñe Muguruza 'inspire hispanity in him', he said in a recent interview – by exploring the city on its newest mode of transport and meeting other sports stars based there.
He has been seen socialising with Real Madrid CF's Keylor Navas and Luka Modrić during his visit.
Djokovic has won the Mutua Madrid Open twice in his career – in 2011 and 2016.
