Summer weather for October bank holiday
GOOD news for anyone planning a getaway this October bank holiday – the 'Indian summer' across Spain is set to stay put for at least another week.

The only sign that autumn is now in its fourth week will be some light rain in the north and possibly in the Balearic Islands and Catalunya – otherwise, conditions will be mostly stable and temperatures will typically be from 5ºC to 10ºC above average for the time of year.

On the Mediterranean, the thermometer has been hovering around the upper 20s most of this week and, as yet, residents have not been able to ditch the fans or dig out the quilts.

A sharp drop in temperatures is expected in the north tomorrow (Wednesday), but the mercury will rise again on Thursday.

By October, inland parts of northern Spain are often down into single figures during the day, and the minimum temperature recorded in the early hours of this morning in Cuéllar (Segovia province, Castilla y León) of 5ºC is fairly normal for the season – but it is expected to see highs of 29ºC tomorrow, as is most of the neighbouring province of Palencia.

Highs of as much as 28ºC to 30ºC will be seen across most of the mainland, even rising to 34ºC or 35ºC in land-locked parts of the south, over the next few days, settling to around 26ºC to 28ºC in the north and 30ºC to 32ºC in the southern half of the mainland over the weekend.

Clear skies are expected for the bank holidays – tomorrow, October 9, in some regions, particularly Valencia, and Saturday, October 12 nationwide – although some morning fog may be present on the Mediterranean and high winds could briefly hit the Strait of Gibraltar.
