Fernando Verdasco's extreme training: Tennis star drags parked car
A TOP tennis star's lifestyle may be everyone's dream – endless money, earned from an activity that many take part in purely for pleasure – and travelling to exotic destinations on and off duty...but the latest picture Fernando Verdasco has posted on Instagram tells a whole different story.
The Madrid-born player is determined 2020 is going to be his year and will see him soar up the ranks again after a grim 2019 in which he was even left out of the Davis Cup team.
For this reason, he is training hard on his game tactics and techniques, but also on his fitness.
And this couldn't be more extreme: he is pictured towing his car, on foot, strapped to it in a harness with a rope around his waist.
The two-tonne SUV is parked outside his house and strapped to him as he marches forwards, trying to drag it with him.
It is not clear whether the handbrake is on, which would make this form of training even more extreme.
Hashtags he has captioned the video with include, “Don't try this at home,” and, “If the car won't start, move it yourself.”
Fernando is accompanied by his personal trainer, and his sound-effects – heartfelt groans and grunts – prove the effort he is making is not just a social media stunt.
And does it move? According to the video footage, Verdasco did indeed manage to drag the vehicle forward several metres.
Verdasco will end 2019 at number 49 in the ATP world rankings, having not made it to a single tournament final all season, but having won 26 matches – although having lost 27.
