Málaga roads appear in 13 TV serials, films and adverts in 2019
02/03/2020
COSTA del Sol highways were the setting for scenes in 13 films, TV serials, adverts and other on-screen productions last year alone, according to the provincial government, or Diputación de Málaga.
It has not named any major Hollywood blockbusters or Anglo-Saxon films or television dramas, but the main trunk roads, inter-provincial highways and link roads between towns appear to have been popular with other European countries last year.
And they have also been seen in photo-shoots, and in 'still' adverts such as posters and catalogues, and TV commercials, as well as music videos, and short films by amateur and up-and-coming professional directors.
One of the largest productions to hit the road – literally – in Málaga included scenes from the MA-3303 Coín-to-Puerto de Pescadores highway for the Finnish television series The Paradise, centred on a veteran female detective dealing with one last case before she retires, and which features Spanish actor, singer, producer and director Fran Perea as the policeman she liaises with.
Another large production included scenes from the MA-8301 Estepona-Jubrique road – the French feature Les Années 10, produced by Les Films Velvet and directed by actor Thierry de Peretti.
The long-running German serial Ein Sommer in ('A Summer in'), which has now clocked up around 30 episodes as it visits sunshine destination all over the world, included shots from the MA-8402 Montejaque-Benaoján highway.
According to the Málaga Film Commission, the 205 days of filming that took place in the province last year brought in over €23 million, a whopping 79% increase on 2018, with TV serials making up 91% of this investment.
Much of this money was spent on local traders.
