SPANISH national low-cost airline Vueling has announced numerous extra flights this summer, increasing frequency and destination choice for 2024.
Formula 1: Spanish Grand Prix scheduled for August
02/06/2020
FORMULA 1 is back on the circuit for the first time since the Australian Grand Prix was suddenly cancelled in March – and the Spanish date has been set for August.
An unprecedented race schedule will see some circuits hosting two weekends – such as Silverstone (UK) and the Red Bull Ring in Austria, the latter of which will be used over July 5 and 12 and the former, over August 2 and August 9.
The Hungarian Grand Prix will take place on July 19, the Belgian Grand Prix on August 30 and the season will finish in Italy, on September 6.
Repeat venues are largely due to some of the usual circuits being in countries which are still gripped by the Coronavirus, including Brazil, Japan and the USA.
Spain's Grand Prix will be on August 16, and will be the 30th held at the same venue – the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit in Montmeló (Barcelona province).
Although the contract with Formula 1 was renewed late last August for at least the 2020 season, until recently, it was not clear whether this would be able to go ahead, or even whether motorsport would resume at all until 2021.
But fast cars will be back in Spain in two months' time, and it appears the organisers want to continue to renew the deal with Catalunya to keep the circuit on the calendar for the foreseeable future.
All races, however, will be 'behind closed doors', meaning no spectators will be allowed at the venue and fans will have to watch the races on TV instead.
Once the season restarts, new faces in different places will be on the scene: Carlos Sainz Junior, whose father, also called Carlos, won this year's Dakar Rally, will make his début with Ferrari, a significant career leap that will see him become a small fish in a big pond.
In fact, a former Ferrari engineer has warned the up-and-coming Madrid-born racing driver that he will 'need to have a very thick skin' to 'deal with the pressure'.
