The Guinness Record Holder for being the oldest man in the world, Joan Riudavets Moll (photo, taken on his 114th birthday, the 15th December 2003), passed away peacefully last night in his home in the village of Es Migjorn Gran in Menorca, at the age of 114. Moll had gone into a coma on Thursday, and did not recover consciousness.
Joan was born in the village of Es Migjorn Gran in 1889, and claimed to have always been blessed with robust health and a cheerful outlook on life, which he attributed to the simplicity of his daily routine. Joan had ten brothers and sisters, of whom, Pere, is still alive and also lives in Es Migjorn Gran, and 98 year old Josep, who lives in Palma de Mallorca. Like his father before him, Joan was a shoemaker, and served as mayor for a short period.
