SPAIN'S headcount has risen to its highest figure in history – for the first time ever, the population has broken the 48 million barrier.
Mercadona, Lidl and Leroy Merlín seek staff for immediate start
01/10/2020
SUPERSTORES across Spain are seeking nearly 800 new staff members for an immediate start with entry-level salaries of €1,300 a month.
Supermarkets Mercadona and Lidl need 177 and 45 each, and DIY hypermarket Leroy Merlín is seeking 551 new employees.
Mercadona is offering both permanent and temporary contracts – although 90% of its staff, at any one time, is on a permanent contract, so those taken on temporarily may become fixed members of the payroll in the foreseeable future.
It is also offering weekend jobs, which would suit students or those who already have another job during the week but need to top up their income.
The vast majority are based in-store, where the starting salary is €1,300 a month before tax (typically about €1,105 net), but Mercadona increases its staff's wages annually until, by the third or fourth year, they are earning in region of €1,400 a month after tax.
Lidl's offers mostly do not need the candidate to have any post-school qualifications, although its job website allows would-be applicants to filter those available by education level.
The majority are for shelf-stacking and other shop-floor duties.
Its salaries, along with Mercadona's, are some of the best on the market – the German chain's minimum for any position is €15,580.60 a year, which works out at about €1,104 a month after tax, with increases annually similar to those of Mercadona.
Leroy Merlín is offering 551 jobs, some full-time and some part-time, mostly starting off on temporary contracts but with the likelihood of becoming permanent over time.
They include restocking, till staff, customer service staff, among others, and the chain also has a graduate training scheme open to applicants nationwide.
The lowest salaries start at about €1,200 a month before tax, or approximately €1,048 a month net, with annual increases as employees gain experience with the firm.
Jobs can be found on Empleo.leroymerlin.es, Empleo.lidl.es, and Mercadona.avanture.net/es_ES/Careers/SearchJobs.
Otherwise, a simple google search with the name of the firm and 'empleo' ('employment') should take applicants to the right page.
