Boiler and heater replacement grants in five regions, with more 'possibly' to follow
ONE of Spain's largest consumer organisations has revealed which regional governments offer grants to householders who need to replace their boilers and heaters, and what is involved in claiming the funds.
For new builds, says the OCU, only condensation heaters and boilers can be fitted if the owner is seeking a grant, whilst in detached properties or houses designed for one family unit, static boilers and heaters can be installed.
These are only permitted in apartment blocks where a communal gas outlet pipe onto the roof is included, explains the OCU.
For all these situations, grants can be obtained in some regions, although the deadlines for applying are coming up fast, and applications should be made before the work starts or the purchase made, meaning the scheme may not be suitable for emergencies.
At the moment, only Madrid, Navarra, Galicia, Extremadura and Castilla y León are offering funding, but the OCU believes others may do so 'imminently' and recommends continuing to check in with the organisation over the autumn and winter.
In Castilla y León, grants range from €150 to €500, for the boiler or heater and the cost of fitting, with a deadline for applications of November 15.
This is one of the most generous – in the Greater Madrid region, although the deadline is not until New Year's Eve 2021, the cash is only available to freehold communities rather than individual homeowners, and in Navarra, it takes the form of a deduction from annual income taxes when a boiler or heater using renewable energy sources is fitted.
Extremadura and Galicia give cash grants, but only for those using renewable energy sources, such as biomass.
In the latter case, the deadline is drawing very close, so anyone who wants to take advantage of the grants should check out the details quickly via the Energy Institute of Galicia.
Other, more southern regions, if they plan to offer funds, may do so later in the year, given that the cold weather season tends to come later than in four of the five currently providing grants.
