Yinara, Chiara and Adam – first babies of 2021
01/01/2021
TWO girls and a boy who came into the world just as the chimes marked midnight are the first babies born in 2021, in Catalunya, Andalucía and Castilla-La Mancha.
Yinara's was the first birth of the year in Catalunya, to a mum from Constantí (Tarragona province), weighing a healthy 3.15 kilos (just under 7lb).
Exactly at the same time, Andalucía's first baby of the year was born to an expat couple – Chiara Luna's mum is Czech and her dad is Italian, and they live in Málaga.
The happy family, who already have a daughter, are shown posing in the picture above, by Andalucía regional government.
Adam was the first baby of the year in Castilla-La Mancha, and also one of the joint three first for Spain, coming into the world at the district hospital in Hellín, Albacete province, and weighing 3.095 kilos (6lb 13oz).
Elsewhere in the country, the two first babies in Galicia were born at 00.05 – Antón, in Ourense, and Guillermo, in the Pontevedra province town of Vilagarcía.
Iris is the first baby of the year in the Greater Madrid region, born at 00.16, whilst the first birth of 2021 in Aragón was Nicolás, at 00.26 in the district hospital in Alcañiz in the region's southernmost province of Teruel.
Two minutes later, Izan David was born in Navarra, but the next birth would not be for another 27 minutes – Diego, who came into the world in Santander's Marqués de Valdecilla hospital in Cantabria, only just missed the chimes in the Canary Islands, Portugal, Morocco and the UK, meaning that by a margin of just five minutes, his date of birth in mainland Spain is January 1, 2021 and yet, in Britain and the Canaries, would have been December 31, 2020.
After the 'midnight babies', the first births of 2021 in other regions did not take place for several hours: Sergio, second child of Diego and Ana, was born in Calahorra, La Rioja, at 05.23.
The Balearic Islands' first baby of the year is Xavi, born at 06.31 this morning in the Mateu Orfila hospital in Menorca to parents who live in Alaior.
