Extra special Christmas gifts for two of Spain's biggest tennis stars
06/01/2021
Spanish tennis stars Fernando Verdasco and Feliciano López have had more than most to celebrate over this festive season - both have welcomed new additions to their families.
On December 21st, Fernando Verdasco and Ana Boyer welcomed their second son, Mateo, into the world, and Feliciano López and Sandra Gago announced the birth of their first child, Darío, on January 4th.
Verdasco and Boyer were married on the island of Mustique in December 2017 and had their first child, Miguel, in March 2019. Boyer is the daughter of the late Miguel Boyer, a Spanish politician, for whom their firstborn son was named, and socialite Isabel Preysler. Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias is Boyer's half-brother.
Both Verdasco and Boyer shared the happy news of Mateo's arrival on social media with a photo from hospital (above).
"Everything went well and both mum and baby are perfect", confirmed Verdasco, who also admitted to being "super happy and proud" to have "a wonderful wife and two wonderful sons". Ana Boyer shared the first snapshot of the newborn, a photo of his tiny hand clutching hers, and thanked everyone for the mountain of good wishes the couple had received.
Unfortunately, because of Covid restrictions, no other members of the family were allowed into the hospital to welcome Mateo into the world, not even little Miguel, his older brother. Thankfully, all four were together at home in time for Christmas Eve, with the best present any family can ask for.
Fellow tennis star Feliciano López and his wife Sandra Gago, welcomed their first child, Darío, into the world on Monday, just in time for Spain's second festive celebration, the arrival of the Three Kings.
Feli posted a photo of his son in a cream-coloured sleepsuit with the letter D on the chest and a close-up of the baby's little hand. "4-01-2021. Welcome to our lives Darío. Thank you to all the team at @bmummadrid and especially to Abi and Jackie for being with us through the whole process as only you know how. I hope to play more tricky matches with you by my side!!", he wrote on his Instagram account.
Before either of the new parents made an official announcement, various media outlets had already leaked reports that the young model had given birth to Darío, their first child. After enjoying a few hours in private with the new addition to their family, they both shared the same tender photo of the infant on Instagram.
Gago, 25, described the arrival of her son as a "dream come true" and also thanked all the staff at the hospital. In an interview just before giving birth, she confessed to living “the most special months" of her life and said she was thoroughly enjoying the final stages of her pregnancy. “I have always loved kids and I always imagined myself with a baby in my arms. Becoming a mother has always been my biggest dream, since I was a little girl”, she told ¡Hola! magazine.
Feliciano López and Sandra Gago got together in early 2018 and made their relation official with a photoshoot in May of the same year. Just over a year later, in September 2019, they tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Palma de Mallorca, site of their most special summers.
