Mass upgrades to Almería province country lanes
14/01/2021
A HUGE investment in back roads and country lanes will benefit five towns in the province of Almería in the coming year, with much-needed resurfacing, maintenance, weeding and layout changes to make driving safer.
MP for public works Óscar Liria says the full €1.85 million will come from provincial government, or Diputación funds.
Vélez-Blanco will get a total of €80,000 for tidying up, clearing overgrowth, cleaning drainage ditches and re-tarmacking its lanes, whilst Adra will be able to make drastic improvements to conditions of 12 of its country roads with a cash injection of just under €304,000.
Níjar will get the highest pay-out - €675,000 – and resurfacing, anti-slip solutions and general tidying up will be carried out.
The second-largest grant is destined for Roquetas de Mar, at just over €525,000, allowing major overhauls of eight roads, whilst La Mojonera will receive nearly €247,000 for clearing and re-tarmacking five of its lanes.
In all cases, the country roads are largely used by the farming community, meaning they will make life easier for those who grow and produce food for the province, the rest of Spain, and for international exports, but the works will also benefit the public in general and, particularly, those living in country houses.
Resurfacing will make the lanes safer and create less wear and tear on cars, and most of the projects involve drainage upgrades, preventing flooding during heavy spring and autumn Mediterranean storms.
