Mercadona seeks new shop and warehouse staff for summer
22/03/2021
NATIONAL supermarket chain Mercadona is seeking extra staff for the long Easter and the summer seasons, which will initially be temporary but could become permanent depending upon business needs in the near future.
At any one time, over 90% of Mercadona's employees are on permanent job contracts, and favourable working conditions means staff turnover is not high – examples have included extensions to maternity and paternity leave, shifts that allow a good work-life balance, profit shares, and competitive salaries.
The company has a policy of never opening on a Sunday or public holiday, except on those occasions where this would mean being closed for more than two days in a row.
New jobs currently being advertised include shop-floor workers for check-out and merchandising, and warehouse staff for taking and handling orders, preparing deliveries and restocking.
They include full-time and half-time positions, and applicants do not need any qualifications beyond compulsory schooling – the ESO, or the equivalent of GCSEs.
Would-be employees should be keen to work as a team, and for branch staff, have an aptitude for customer service.
Salaries for full-time entry-level staff work out at just under a take-home of €1,200 per month, rising annually, with those who have been there for four years or more earning approximately a net monthly figure of €1,488.
Every year, those who have been employed by the firm for four years or less get a bonus as a share of the company's annual profits, whilst those who have been on the payroll for over four years get two profit-share bonuses.
