Primavera Sound reveals 2022 line-up: Dua Lipa, Gorillaz, Massive Attack...
25/05/2021
ONE of Spain's biggest and most famous music festivals has already announced its line-up for 2022, when it will be celebrating its 20th anniversary.
Primavera Sound will not go ahead this June and was cancelled in 2020, too, because of the pandemic, but is expected to back on track for next year and bigger and better than ever.
Organisers say the festival, due to be held in Barcelona and Sant Adrià de Besòs (Barcelona province) from June 2 to 12, 2022, will include more dates, more artists and space for more revellers.
Described as 'the most ambitious to date', next year's Primavera Sound will feature over 500 concerts.
Practically all bands and artists scheduled for 2020 and 2021 will be present, along with others added to the list.
They include The Strokes, Nick Cave, Bad Gyal, Gorillaz, Massive Attack and Beck.
One of the most eagerly-awaited acts – and which is most likely to be oversubscribed – is British-born singer Dua Lipa, the daughter of Kosovo-Albanian refugees who moved to London during the conflict in former Yugoslavia, and whose dad worked in marketing for huge UK-based music festivals such as Glastonbury and Reading.
Other bands and artists include C. Tangana, who will rename himself for the festival as 'El Madrileño', and national acts – already-famous and up-and-coming ones – such as Amaia, Manel, Tarta Relena, Sen Serna, La Mafia del Amor, Rigoberta Bandini, Renaldo & Clara, and Za! & La Transmegacobla.
On the poster are names such as Tame Impala, Pavement, The National, Jorja Smith, Interpool, Megan Thee Stallion, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Disclosure, Jamie XX, and Antònia Font.
A video announcing the festival schedule has just been released, featuring vocalist María José Llergo 'singing' the list of names.
The Barcelona Apolo will play host to most of the mid-week performances, whilst the usual main venue, the Parc de Fòrum, will be used for weekend events, although this time the festival area will be expanded to enable between 75,000 and 80,000 members of the public to attend each day.
Most of the 413 bands and artists will only perform once, but some will do so twice or even more, giving a total of over 500 concerts.
The first weekend will feature those who had been due to perform in 2020 or 2021 and who were unable to do so, such as The Strokes, Tyler The Creator, Pavement, Tame Impala, Massive Attack, Gorillaz, The National, Jorja Smith, and Beck.
Extra ones have been added to the first weekend's schedule, including Charli XCX, a return of previous editions' act Bauhaus, electro-pop with Disclosure, the catchy beats of Jamie XX, and Argentinian and Chilean vocalists, Duki and Paloma Mami, respectively.
Over the second weekend, artists and bands who have soared to fame or produced new studio albums, singles or both in the last few months will take to the stage – like Dua Lipa, M.I.A., and Big Thief.
An all-day party on the beach on June 12 features Nina Kravitz, Amélie Lens and Peggy Gou, and DJs Nicola Cruz, Monolink, Anika Kunst, Chaos in the CBD, Héctor Oaks, Joyhauser, and Malika.
All tickets already bought for the 2020 and 2021 festivals will be value for one of the weekends of the 2022 edition – the ticket-holder can choose which – although refunds can also be provided if it is no longer practical for the person to attend.
