Mercadona seeks logistic and maintenance staff
06/06/2021
SUPERMARKET chain Mercadona is seeking new employees for its logistics department in several regions in Spain, part- and full-time, and temporary and permanent.
The company needs people to work in the storage rooms and refrigeration stores, for preparing online orders ready for delivery, maintenance technicians, and maintenance assistants.
Although the bulk of the positions are in the provinces of Barcelona and León, several vacancies are open in the provinces of Alicante, Madrid, Zaragoza, and Álava (Basque Country).
The starting pay for full-time, permanent jobs is a gross €1,338 per month, which works out at a take-home pay of €1,132.10, although Mercadona increases monthly salaries in line with a set pay scale for each year of service, meaning that by the time a staff member is entering his or her fourth year, they will be on a net monthly figure of nearly €1,500.
For part-time jobs, at 22-and-a-half hours a week, and on a temporary contract, the gross monthly starting salary – which, again, rises each year the person works for the firm, if their contract is made permanent – is €753, translating to a take-home pay of approximately €686.10.
Where shifts involve night work, an out-of-hours bonus is paid on top.
Mercadona often seeks temporary recruits for busy seasons, such as summer and Christmas, but over 90% of its workers are on fixed contracts, meaning these seasonal workers have a good chance of joining the permanent payroll.
Part-time temporary storeroom workers, for weekends, are needed in Zaragoza (Aragón) and San Isidro (Madrid), and full-time temporary storeroom staff for Ciempozuelos (Madrid), Villadangos del Páramo (León province) and Sant Sadurní d'Anoia (Barcelona province).
Full-time temporary staff for preparing online orders are needed in Barcelona city's Zona Franca, although in the future it is possible more employees may be required for similar positions elsewhere in Spain, since online shopping is gradually branching out to more and more areas of the country.
A maintenance assistant is needed in Vitoria, in the Basque Country, which will be full-time and permanent with a fixed night shift, attracting a bonus on top of the standard salary.
Wages are higher for maintenance engineers – two are sought in Villadangos del Páramo, one for mechanics and another for electrics – in full-time and permanent positions, with a starting salary
of €22,904 (a monthly take-home pay of about €1,538.40), rising annually to €34,770 after four years (net monthly earnings of around €2,190.20), with a 'night-shift bonus' on top from day one onwards.
