HOUSEHOLDS in Spain plan to spend on average 20% more on Christmas this year and eight in 10 will be shelling out the same or more than they did in 2020, according to recent figures.
Málaga lottery shop seeks owner of unclaimed jackpot-winning ticket
05/07/2021
A LOTTERY shop on the Costa del Sol is urgently seeking the owner of a ticket worth nearly €78 million.
Branch number 20 of the State lottery network, in Málaga city, says the Euromillions ticket was drawn on Friday and all five numbers plus two 'stars' came up, meaning the holder, or holders, have won the jackpot.
The shop is based in the La Rosaleda shopping centre in the provincial capital on the Avenida Simón Bolívar.
According to the sellers, the exact amount the ticket is worth is €77,959,528.
The numbers drawn are 49, 29, 38, 9, and 14, and the 'star' numbers are 7 and 10.
It is likely, the retailers believe, to have been purchased on behalf of a group or syndicate.
They are urging anyone who has these numbers on Friday's ticket to head back to their branch, or their nearest if they do not live in the area and were merely passing, so they can cash in their prize.
Local daily newspaper Málaga Hoy says branch employee Rosario Martín is delighted to have sold a jackpot ticket.
Reporter José Miguel Ramírez quotes her as saying: “We still can't believe it.
“You get used to dishing out good luck, but normally much more 'discreet' prizes.
“On Friday night my boss got a call, and I was given the news at 22.30. We spent until the early hours writing messages to each other on our mobiles – we were really excited, we couldn't hide it.
“All we know is that it was a ticket bought for the Tuesday and Friday draws, but we don't know who it is; it could be that the buyer doesn't even know yet if they're not on social media.
“We think it's probably someone from the city, or near it, because we have a pretty regular customer base and, this year, there are fewer tourists than usual due to the restrictions.”
