A FOOD fair with dishes and snacks served up by over 70 local restaurants and bars, plus live music all day and fun activities for children is hoped to raise a handsome sum for Spain's main cancer care, support and research centre, according to Fuengirola town council.
Head of families and social welfare, Rocío Rodríguez, and area chairwoman for the AECC for Fuengirola and Mijas, Paula Casas, urge as many residents in the town and visitors to the Costa del Sol area to make a day of it.
The venue itself makes it an exciting prospect, even without the food and music – Fuengirola's Sohail Castle will host the event.
All proceeds from tickets will go to the AECC, which provides practical and emotional help for people with cancer, and vital research into causes, diagnostics, treatments and cures.
In fact, it was largely at the AECC's instigation that all residents in Spain aged 50-plus are now called upon regularly for bowel-cancer screening, enabling the disease to be treated at the earliest stages or even prevented and which has drastically reduced mortality rates for what is otherwise mostly asymptomatic until it is very advanced, or even too late.
This means the €10 per head for tickets to the Sohail Castle food fair on Saturday, October 2 is a small price to pay for efforts which will directly benefit one in three people in their lifetimes and, indirectly, almost everyone.
These can either be bought online, or at the door on the day – no extra charge is applicable for either, but anyone who wants to inflate their own ticket price to help raise more money is welcome to do so.
The venue opens at 13.30, and activities will continue until late.
