OUTER space and the Bronze Age do not sit well in the same sentence – they may both have existed at the same time, but anyone based on Earth back then would not have known much, or anything, about what lies beyond.
Mobile Week Málaga brings technology and family fun to Costa del Sol
04/12/2021
A SMALLER and more local version of Barcelona's Mobile World Congress will bring the latest moves in high technology to the Costa del Sol capital next weekend.
Mobile Week Málaga, mostly held at the city's FYCMA trade fair centre (pictured above) and run by the Mobile World Capital Barcelona Foundation, takes place between Thursday, December 9 and Sunday, December 12 and will showcase the newest digital and communication developments, with over 170 other activities taking place in 40 different venues off the back of it, to keep the public entertained.
Clubs and societies, companies and trade associations, along with the city council itself, are running events all over Málaga in strategic locations such as the MUPAM museum, the Thyssen art museum, and in the Plaza de la Merced and the Plaza del Obispo.
They include a video game week, on the temporary 'Mobile Park' camping area set up in six parts of the city and in the Caja Blanca area, between December 8 (Wednesday) and December 14 (Tuesday).
School activities, targeting primary to sixth-form, include educational workshops and the chance to talk to cyber-security engineers from Virus Total – linked to Google and based in Málaga – among other IT specialists of renown from across the country.
Most are educational as well as fun – such as the talk on applied technology in the performing arts at the Soho-CaixaBank Theatre, by none other than Málaga's most famous native, Hollywood actor Antonio Banderas.
In neighbouring Antequera, you can build your own robot, and at the Orange Foundation stand in Málaga's Plaza de la Merced, a roulette-style 'guessing game' gives participants a chance to win prizes.
A visit to Málaga cathedral, in the Plaza del Obispo, will be a unique experience on Thursday – see it through virtual reality goggles and feel as though you are really part of the artwork and architecture inside.
Among the talks, conferences and presentations, one aimed at women in La Sole restaurant on the C/ Zegrí on Friday is a short course on 'how to be managers', with practical techniques for those already in a senior rôle and advice on breaking the glass ceiling.
Anyone who wants to join in organised events has to register via the Mobile Week website, https://mweek.com/malaga, where a full schedule of activities with dates, times and venues has been published.
