ESTEPONA'S new '€1-a-day' car park with space for 500 users is due to open next month – and building it has offered an opportunity to landscape surrounding streets.

The Plaza del Ajedrez, where the underground car park is now based, has been smartened up, as have the neighbouring C/ Mallorca, C/ Menorca and C/ Francisco Gutiérrez.
Garden and park areas, and an upgrade to mains service supplies were added during the project.
Half the parking slots will be set aside for residents as permanent bases for their vehicles, and the rest are for use by the general public, costing a maximum of €1 per day for both.
It is not managed by a corporate entity, but by an association in Estepona working towards getting disabled people into jobs.
With the 500 new spaces, the Costa del Sol town will have just over 1,350 slots for parking, many of them in the town centre.
