NATIONAL supermarket chain Aldi has announced 1,000 new jobs, which will be filled between now and the end of this year.
The German firm already has around 6,500 staff members in Spain, and is looking to increase its team by approximately 16% to meet rising demand.
Aldi has grown rapidly in recent months, with over six million regular customers and is now one of the key players in the country – along with fellow German chain Lidl, and the Valencian store Mercadona, the three combined make up over 41% of the national market.
Nearly a third of the new jobs will be in Catalunya – in region of 320 vacancies have been created in the north-eastern region in head offices and stores, with another 290 in central and northern Madrid.
Andalucía, in the south, has around 250 new jobs to fill, whilst 40 have been created in the Canary Islands – in addition to the region's current 200 employees – plus another 50 in the Comunidad Valenciana.
Aldi has recently 'landed' in the northern coastal region of Asturias, and is seeking 20 new staff members in the area.
By the end of 2022, Aldi will have opened 50 new branches nationwide, with additional stores in Andalucía, the Comunidad Valenciana, Madrid and Catalunya.
This year saw the chain launch in the Canary Islands as well as Asturias, and plans are afoot to expand its presence in both regions, and in Galicia in the north-west, in the early months of 2023.
