6 spacious holiday apartments in one of the most historic buildings in Moclin. The building, in the heart of the village, dates back to the early part of the 18th century, when the Spanish Succession War was being fought between Spain and the Grand Alliance of England, Holland, Prussia, and Austria.
The building was later used as a hospital, bakery, and mill during the economic boost that the area experienced after the end of the war.
In the early 19th century, a new war occurred, the Spanish War of Independence, which overlapped with the Peninsular War, when Napoleon Bonaparte invaded Spain. The French occupied Granada and used the Casa de las Tropas to house troops, and even today rich rumors circulate about the officers who were stationed at the Moclín barracks. After the end of the War of Independence, the building's life as a barracks continued until around 1844, at which point the property was divided to provide housing for wealthy locals.
The family of the current owner bought the property in 1960 and it was used as an active dairy farm.
300 years of rich history and stories contained within the thick stone walls.
Over time, the property was delicately restored and 6 spacious independent apartments were created that maintain the sense of the past and recall the heritage of the building.
Today, the property and the fully licensed apartments have been very well maintained, and in addition to the independent space offered by each apartment, there are common areas both inside and outside. Therefore, this is an opportunity to acquire an established and income-generating tourist business in a village that will receive a lot of media attention in 2025, 2026, and beyond after the airing of a very popular BBC program in early 2025.
The property is located between Eras and Saturia Pardo streets, going down the hill. There are entrances on three sides, with the main carriage entrance on El Moral street; the stone threshold still has the grooves carved by the carriages and carts that entered and exited the property.
As for the apartments, the reception is located at a corner of Eras street, hidden by a large orange tree.
Accommodation
Upper ground floor
There is a reception area just inside the main door, and then hallways and stairs lead to other parts of the building.
On this floor, there are three apartments, one of which has a bedroom on the upper floor. Apart from apartment 1, with a bedroom on an upper floor, all apartments have an open-plan living room/bedroom with a kitchenette and independent bathroom. There is air conditioning and heating in all rooms, making the apartments suitable for tourism year-round.
There is a nice landscaped patio next to the reception area, and from the main landing, a flight of stairs leads to the ground floor.
Ground floor
On this floor, there are reminders of the building's past. The main reception room looks like a museum, with ancient jars embedded in the floor and antiques on the walls. A huge wooden door opens from a large lobby to the main patio and the pool terrace.
On this floor, there is an independent toilet and a storage room, and a short flight of stairs leads to apartment 4.
Apartments 5 and 6 are accessible via the exterior stairs leading from the main garden to Saturia Pardo street.
Throughout the property, there are additional storage areas for bedding and other items pertinent to the smooth operation of a tourist accommodation business.
Exterior
The main garden is spread over two levels and the pool is located on the upper terrace. From this spacious terrace, there are 360-degree views - possibly some of the best views of the village - across the Sierra Nevada in one direction and to the church and castle in the other direction.
Currently, the rental prices for each apartment range from 55 to 70 euros per night.
Moclin is a very historic village, with a past that dates back over 23,000 years. Its history is intertwined with that of Granada, the city that can be seen below the village; the Alhambra can be seen from the 13th-century Arab castle of Moclin. The Catholic Monarchs, Isabel and Fernando, stayed in Moclín for 6 years before capturing Granada from the Moors in 1492.
The village hosts one of the most important classic religious festivals in Spain, the Fiesta del Cristo del Paño, on October 5, a day when an average of 15,000 people come to Moclín.
A production team from the BBC has just finished filming a very popular television program in the village and its surroundings, and in 2025 there will be a great deal of media attention focused on the area, and on the province of Granada as a whole.
This is the perfect opportunity to acquire a thriving tourist business, with all licenses in a beautiful location and be part of the future of the village.
