The territory of this barony, located in the La Marina region, stretches from the Guadalest and Algar rivers to the municipality of Villajoyosa, encompassing the beaches of Albir and Benidorm; inland, it bordered Callosa and Guadalest. When this barony was founded, it took the name Polop because, at that time, it was the most important center, and its castle was the strongest fortress and the most suitable for security and defense.

Today, the municipality of Polop, situated on the eastern foothills of the Valencian Pre-Betic range, occupies the central area of La Marina Baja. Its territory, rugged in the west by the Ponoig massif, is drained by the Salt and Canet de Xirles ravines. The Guadalest River forms the boundary between Polop and Callosa d'en Sarriá.
