Polop is a municipality in the Valencian Community (Spain), located in the northeast of the province of Alicante, in the Marina Baja region.

During the Old Regime, Polop was a seigniory of the Crown of Aragon. The barons of Polop was the name given to those who owned the lordship. It was created by Jaime I of Aragon and granted to Doña Berenguela Alfonso of Castile. The feud belonged to the House of Aragon until 1430 and to the Fajardo family until the beginning of the 19th century.

The territory of this barony, located in the La Marina region, extends from the rivers Guadalest and Algar to the end of Villajoyosa, passing through the beaches of Albir and Benidorm.

The most important geological features of the municipality are the Monte Ponoig mountain range and the ravines that flow to the east. Mount Ponoig (1181 m) is located to the west of Polop.

Polop is about 15 minutes’ drive from the city of Benidorm and its beautiful white sandy beaches, and around 5 minutes from shopping centres such as La Marina, Carrefour, Media Markt, sports shops, restaurants, shops, bars, and close to theme parks for children and parents such as Terra Mitica, Terra Natura, Mundomar, and Aqualandia, as well as golf courses. Alicante airport is about 35 minutes’ drive away.
