Description
Winery for sale in Mallorca, a historic building of 1,228 m² on an urban plot of 1,522 m² in the Denomination of Origin Binissalem.
Operated for 80 years as a winery by the same family, typical of the industrial architecture of Mallorca from the early 20th century, with details such as the internal wooden roof structure of the building, featuring exposed timber beams and a traditional roof truss system, stone archways and a central cobbled entrance floor, typically of buildings in Mallorca from an earlier date.
As a function winery, the family produced and bottled wine, selling wine wholesale to local restaurants, cafés and retail from the winery to the local market, as well as offering sales of their own products and wines from the region and tastings for visiting tourists.
The property has two access points. Public access was via a 90 m² entrance with displays of photography of the local vineyards and the traditional wooden barrels. From here, the public could enter the central double storey area at the heart of the building and sample the wines on offer.
To the rear of the building, accessible by road, parking was provided for commercial clients and vehicles owned by the family. Here, the main activities of the winery took place: production and bottling of wine. There were storage facilities for the wine and facilities for staff, including a staff lounge, bathrooms and toilets, as well as administrative offices.
The building is of historic significance. It is an investment opportunity, ideal for hospitality or for the exploitation of wine tourism in Mallorca, as it retains its charming original characteristics.
Binissalem is located in the centre of the island, with good transport links to Palma de Mallorca and the beaches in the north of the island. Binissalem is a vibrant small town, famous for wine production and home to the oldest and largest Denomination de Origen in Mallorca. From its origins, it has been a wealthy community and has many large historic buildings built with local stone.
The original settlement was of Moorish origin; the name of the village means “the sons of” (Binis) peace or salvation (Salem). Biniagual is a small hamlet included in the municipality.
The five municipalities that make up the DO Binissalem are Santa Maria del Camí, Consell, Binissalem, Santa Eugènia and Sencelles. The administrative heart of the denomination is Binissalem, with cellers in the villages and many more in the countryside, open to the public for visits and tastings.
