Guardamar del Segura is located south of the Alicante Costa Blanca, at the confluence of the Segura River with the Mediterranean Sea.

This welcoming tourist town has everything you need for a comfortable stay thanks to its splendid climate and its 8 wide sandy beaches, 4 of which have been recognized with a Blue Flag for their high quality and impeccable services. The city’s history can be found in the ruins of the Castillo de Guardamar. In the 13th century, it served as a fortress that protected its residents from Muslim attacks and was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake in the 19th century.

Antiques lovers will also enjoy the ruins of the ancient Phoenician port of La Fonteta and the excavations of the Iberian settlement and the Cabezo Lucero necropolis, where, in 1987, a stone bust of an Iberian lady was found, with clothing similar to the Dama de Elche dating back to 450–350 BC. The Dama de Guardamar is considered one of the city’s symbols and is preserved in the Alicante Archaeological Museum.

It’s also interesting to visit the Casa-Museo del Ingeniero Francisco Mira, which saved the city from the advance of the dunes by planting thousands of pines, eucalyptus trees, cypresses, and palms. These plantings, over an area of 800 hectares, form the Parque Alfonso XIII.

In the city center there is another park, the Parque Reina Sofía. There are peacocks here. You can feed the squirrels. Ducks and turtles live in the ponds. There is a playground and attractions.

At the mouth of the Segura River there is a marina, where lovers of active recreation can practice sailing, surfing, scuba diving, and sport fishing.

In summer, tourists from different countries come here. 40% of the population is foreign.
