Guardamar del Segura is located south of the Costa Blanca in Alicante, at the confluence of the Segura River and the Mediterranean Sea.
This quiet, green town has everything you need for a comfortable stay, thanks to its excellent climate and its wide sandy beaches, with several recognized with a Blue Flag for their quality and services. The sun shines here about 320 days a year. The average sea temperature in August is around 27°C, and in the cold season around 20°C.
The town is surrounded by citrus orchards, coniferous forests, parks and sand dunes. The abundance of pine and eucalyptus parks, the lack of industrial production and the proximity of the La Mata and Torrevieja salt flats contribute to the area’s air.
The history of the city includes the ruins of the Castle of Guardamar. In the 13th century it served as a fortress protecting its inhabitants from Muslim attacks and it was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake in the 19th century.
Antique lovers may also be interested in the ruins of the ancient Phoenician port of La Fonteta and the excavations of the Iberian village and necropolis of Cabezo Lucero, where in 1987 a stone bust of an Iberian lady was found (with clothing similar to the Lady of Elche), dating from approximately 450–350 BC. The Lady of Guardamar is considered one of the city’s symbols and is exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Alicante.
Also of interest is the House-Museum of the engineer Francisco Mira, who helped protect the city from the advance of the dunes by planting thousands of pines, eucalyptus, cypresses and palm trees. These plantations, in an area of 800 hectares, form the Alfonso XIII Park.
In the city center there is another park, Reina Sofía Park, where there are peacocks and visitors can feed squirrels. Ducks and turtles live in the ponds, and there is a children’s playground and attractions.
At the mouth of the Segura river there is a marina where visitors can practice activities such as sailing, surfing, diving and sport fishing.
In summer, tourists from different countries visit the area, with a significant share of the population being foreign.
The city’s infrastructure meets residents’ needs, and the construction sector is developing actively. Demand for housing in the area is high, and purchase and rental prices are increasing, making Guardamar a potentially attractive destination for investment.
