The seaside resort of Mil Palmeras can be reached via a country road through the forest and past the golf courses of Campoamor and Las Colinas (which has a gym you can pay to use), usually with very little traffic, and only a 15-minute ride.
There are places to eat and drink nearby, including Pimientos Restaurant (800 metres walk from the house) and the Alingui restaurant based in the Conesa Castle (a faux Alhambra-style castle located on the road to San Miguel town centre), which is 2,200 metres from the property. The town centre of San Miguel itself is approximately 3 km away.
If you would like to take a walk in the forest of Sierra Escalona, there is an entrance close to the house (230 metres away) which takes you directly into this area of outstanding beauty measuring 4,700 hectares.
San Miguel de Salinas is a popular Spanish town just 15 minutes drive from the beaches of Mil Palmeras, Campoamor, Cabo Roig, La Zenia, Torrevieja, La Mata, Guardamar, and surrounded by beautiful countryside, including citrus and almond groves, as well as the national park of Sierra Escalona right on your doorstep. You can walk and cycle for miles along the canal that runs right next to the town.
There are a great variety of bars and restaurants, both Spanish and international (the annual tapas run event is very popular!). If you are looking for a holiday destination or a place to live all year round, San Miguel has all amenities (excellent primary and secondary schools, banks, a health centre, pharmacies, large outdoor swimming pool, football and athletics stadium, 5-a-side football pitch, tennis courts, padel courts, basketball courts, petanca, crown green bowls, etc.) and maintains the same rhythm throughout the year.
The weekly Wednesday street market is a great opportunity to stock up on locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables, hams, cheeses, olives, clothes and shoes, before having a drink and tapas in one of the friendly tavernas.
There is a good local taxi service and buses run several times daily to Torrevieja, Orihuela and Murcia. Alicante and Murcia airports are both approximately 40 minutes drive away. Internet services are generally fast (fibre-optic) and reliable.
