Description
Private country house / finca / cortijo and land, Murtas, southern Spain
Location
Set in the heart of southern Spain, this stunning private retreat sits in approximately 2.5 hectares of land (25,000 m2). With its unique panorama and an elevation of approximately 1,200 metres, you have spectacular views of the Sierra Nevada mountain range to the north and the azure Mediterranean Sea to the south, set across a beautiful vista of valleys and hills. If you value nature, peace, and tranquillity, this is the perfect property. The land also offers the opportunity for a small agricultural project, self-sufficiency, or an off-grid lifestyle, if you wish, although shopping and local amenities are also available only 30 minutes away. The area is famous for its locally made produce, including wine.
The property is also versatile for other options, for example, remote workers. Everything you need to connect with the outside world is possible – mobile phone service and internet is very good from the property.

•A purpose-built chicken coop is situated about 30 metres from the property, where the current owners have approximately 20 chickens.

Land
The ridge of land runs approximately East – West, with a gentle northern slope on which there are many productive almond and fig trees, as well as grape vines. Strolling across the land, you can find many wild herbs such as thyme and lavender. After a short rain shower, the amazing scents of all the bushes and herbs are released into a wonderful aromatic haze. There is also an orchard that includes mature productive olive trees and fruit trees such as apple, quince, apricot, persimmon, plum, pear, and horse chestnut. A cultivated vegetable-growing plot is perfect for tomatoes, onions, peppers, soft fruit, and much more.
A deep well provides all the water you need for irrigation.
A sizeable modern swimming pool offers incredible views across the mountain and valleys – perfect for a cooling dip in the late afternoon and evening – enjoying the stunning sunset and the incredible aerobatic displays of swifts or bee eaters. All pool equipment, including robotic cleaner, are included in the sale.
The current owners have also laid grass to the side and rear of the property, as well as next to the pool, to further enjoy the outside living space and encourage birds and enhance the natural vistas.
Utilities
Mains water is provided to the property and is perfectly drinkable.
Solar panels provide ample electricity.
Water is heated via electric (solar) or the wood-burning boiler.
Local bills, payable to Murtas local government office, are for water (approximately 200 to 300 euros per year) and IBI tax (approximately 200 euros per year).
Potential
Unlike many rural or town properties, there is all the land at your disposal, with a huge amount of space for parking and camping, and further development subject to planning.
The current owners obtained a tourism license for a B&B venture, and it is anticipated that this would also be possible for any future owners.
Local amenities
Local roads are in excellent condition, and maintenance of highways seems to be a priority even here in rural Spain. The small road that goes past access to the property has recently been re-tarmacked, even though barely a handful of cars pass along it every day.
The small local village of Murtas, approximately 10 minutes away, offers a lovely primary school, pharmacy, doctors office, a bar / café, small shop, tennis courts, and swimming pool (in Summer).
Larger towns of Cadiar and Albunol are approximately 30 minutes away, offering more extensive shopping and amenities, including a new hospital. There are also sports facilities including the famous padel, football, and much more.
With only a 30-minute drive, you can access the main coastal road, which leads north to Almeria or south to Malaga, for access to all the facilities offered by these major cities, including the airports and ports.
Recreation
All kinds of activities are possible here. Of course, there is hiking and cycling, and the incredible peaceful location is perfect for mindfulness activities, painting, and birdwatching. If you wish to join in with local activities, there is a wealth of choice offered in the local towns, and you can link up via Facebook groups to keep up-to-date with local news and events. Free Spanish lessons are offered in Murtas every week.
Beaches are only a 30-minute drive away, with newly developed amenities including picnic tables and showers in La Rabita and El Pozuelo. Pop-up restaurants are available on the beaches in La Rabita in the Summer for amazing locally caught fresh fish dishes.
Paragliding
Being on a ridge, we have the perfect launch site for paragliding, and the current owner is a paragliding pilot who has developed the height of the launch site and created a flat landing area especially for this. Additionally, an agreement with a local landowner means there is a convenient landing site in the valley. Flying to the beach or cross-country is also possible, and the wider area offers many other sites, with local paragliding clubs being very friendly and welcoming to new members!
