Esporles is a municipality on the island of Majorca, located in the Tramuntana Mountain Range area. It is about 15 kilometres from Palma, the capital city. The village is divided into “Vilavella” and “Vilanova” (the older and newer parts). The economy was originally based on agriculture and livestock, which can be seen in the farm museum “Sa Granja”. Nowadays, as in most of the Balearic Islands, it is based on tourism. The textile industry was also very important in the past, and some remains can still be seen today, such as factories or buildings that are currently empty. Many of these are being transformed into homes. Within its territory there are also some small urbanisations, such as “Ses Rotgetes de Canet” and “Es Verger”.
