Los Nietos, Spain, is a small fishing village with its own marina on the Mar Menor. It started out as a very small fishing settlement and was later urbanised to allow for more holiday homes on the Mar Menor. It is now a busy community with many visitors, especially in the summer, with occasional events. There are many foreigners living there, mainly British. The village is located at the eastern terminus of the Cartagena-Los Nietos commuter rail line.
The Mar Menor has a coastline of 73 km with numerous beaches with clear, shallow water (maximum depth 7 m). The lagoon of the Mar Menor covers an area of 170 km² and is the largest saltwater lake in Europe. The average annual temperature is 17 °C, the winters are mild, with average temperatures that do not drop much below 10 °C.
La Manga del Mar Menor itself is a narrow strip of land between two seas, the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor, with a width of up to 300 m and a length of 21 km. It has more than 40 km of sandy beaches, a casino, hotels and is close to the airport, the centre of Murcia and Cartagena, one of the oldest cities in Spain.
Los Alcazares is an old fishing village of 20 km² with 7 km of beaches from Los Narejos to Punta Brava. There are good connections to Los Alcazares and other nearby places.
Santiago de la Ribera was founded in 1888 around a hermitage, named after the apostle Santiago, and founded by Brother José Maria Barnuevo Rodrigo de Villamayor, a knight of the Military Order of Santiago – for this reason the town was given the name Santiago de la Ribera.
Cabo de Palos is a bay on the Mediterranean side of La Manga, just before the strip itself. The town is built on a volcanic spine of the Murcian coast, where fishing remains one of the main sources of income, although it has been modernised.
Playa Honda, Mar de Cristal, Islas Menores, Los Nietos, Los Urrutias and Punta Brava are small hamlets and villages along the coastline.

Murcia and Alicante airports can be reached in about 35 minutes for Murcia and an hour for Alicante respectively.
